Two World Champion Surfers confirmed for iconic local charity lunch

Shaun & Rabbit Off The Wall

Former ASP World Champion Wayne [Rabbit] Bartholomew will share the stage with surf legend and 1977 world champion Shaun Tomson at the 10th annual Board Meeting Surf Charity Legends of Surf Long Lunch which will be held at Novotel Twin Waters on September 23.

The Board Meeting Surf Charity Committee Chairman Mark Skinner, said the annual lunch continues to get bigger and bigger each year with 600 people set to fill the room to hear from two of the world’s most iconic surfers.

“I thought we reached a peak last year when Joel ‘Parko’ Parkinson was our guest speaker but to have two former word champions in Rabbit and Shaun on stage is incredibly amazing. I am sure our MC John Charlton will  unearth some very funny stories about life on tour in those early days of pro-surfing.

“Our goal is to continue to raise money to help support local kids and their families with disabilities and this year we have over 40 items for the auction including 12 boards, signed jerseys, holidays, watches and surf art with all proceeds going directly to local families.

“Over the last twelve months our charity has managed to raise over $200,000 to help over 60 local families and we want to continue to do this over the next year,” Mark said.

Born in South Africa, Shaun Tomson has lived and competed on every continent and is recognised for his amazing tube riding and ability to master the notorious Hawaiian breaks which he dominated during the mid 1970s.

Shaun said he was excited to visit the Sunshine Coast to help raise funds for local children with disabilities.

“I am hoping that the wonderful Sunshine Coast surfing community turns out to support this amazing charity lunch. I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences while on the tour and also my post surfing career as an author, movie maker, motivational speaker and brand maker,” Shaun said.
