Motivational speakers to inspire Peregian

Richard Thompson

World record ultra-endurance athlete, Richard Thompson will be joining fellow professional athlete, Jordan Mercer as a guest speaker at Peregian’s annual fundraising gala, Spirit of Peregian, on Saturday, September 10th at Peregian Park.

Spirit of Peregian began in 2020 with a goal to give back to the community after experiencing the devastation of the 2019 Peregian fires. This year’s event will raise funds for the future rebuilding of the Peregian Surf Life Saving Club, which this year became the first Queensland Surf Club that has been successfully re-incorporated following its closure.

Sunshine Coast based Richard Thompson said he is incredibly honoured to be involved in this year’s event as a guest speaker, as someone who understands the challenge of achieving the seemingly impossible.

“Spirit of Peregian is about bringing the community together and inspiring them to step up. I’m incredibly excited to get on stage in front of a great crowd and speak to them about the power of self, the power of team, the power of the community and how together we can achieve the impossible,” Richard said.

“A team that works together with the right mindset can achieve any goal they want to achieve. The plan to rebuild the Peregian Surf Club is also a goal that may feel impossible and I am here to give the Peregian community the tools to show them how it can be done,” Richard said.

Jordan Mercer – Nutrigrain

Professional IronWoman Series Champion, Jordan Mercer said she is excited to share her connection with surf lifesaving and why the club is crucial to our community.

“I am excited to show my support for an important fundraising cause. I wouldn’t have reached the success I have as an IronWoman if it wasn’t for surf lifesaving and the local surf clubs,” Jordan said.

“Surf clubs are a key part of beachside towns. They teach the importance of beach safety to children at nippers, promote a culture of community service, provide a community hub that brings people together and of course their overarching purpose is to save lives.”

“These things can’t be achieved if there isn’t a functioning surf club in Peregian, which has the facilities to support the volunteers and athletes while delivering financial security for the long term future of the Club,” Jordan said.

The anticipated sell-out event takes place in Peregian Park, commencing at 4:30pm. Tickets are inclusive of canapes, a three-course meal from Capelli Foods and Peregian Pantry, and a premium drinks package including Sunshine & Sons Gin Bar, Diablo Cocktail Bar, and fine wines.
