Local Club Receives International Acknowledgement for Overseas Aid

Congratulations Lions Club of Mooloolaba on receipt of the prestigious MODEL CLUB Award from the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

According to one of the Foundation’s Chairs Dr Jitsuhiro Yamada, a past International Lions president, the club showed great leadership and dedication in playing a pivotal role in expanding the aid work of the Foundation to help disaster impacted communities worldwide.

Aid to refugees from war-torn communities in re-settlement in 17 countries has been one feature of the current grant program.

Lions Mooloolaba is one of the more significant club donors to the International Foundation.

Mooloolaba Lions express thanks to the local community for supporting its projects. The patronage of our fund-raising projects is appreciated. This is typified by the sale of $25,000 in Christmas cakes this December from our major festive season outlet at Maroochydore Bunnings and $2,000 from the club’s Bunnings sausage sizzle two days after Christmas.

The cornerstone fundraiser for the club is the Fisherman’s Road Market. The energy and drive of leaders within the group drive the success story. These often-unsung heroes are both club members and Friends of Lions. The “Friends” are primarily members of the former Mooloolaba Lioness club.

The last six weeks has seen our aid focused locally: $5,000 to “Need for Feed” drought impacted farmers; $6,000 to Tara bushfire victims; $5,000 to each of St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army to help local families and now $7,000 to North Queensland cyclone and flood victims.
