Celebrating Conservation and Community

As a business that operates in and on the ocean, The Pressure Project recognises the responsibility to give back to the marine environment and foster community engagement. Ocean-based tourism and education must be grounded in conservation. With the annual whale migration fast approaching, it’s vital to ensure these incredible creatures are safe, understood, and respected. Through education, action, and shared experience, the aim is to cultivate a deeper sense of stewardship for the ocean and all its inhabitants.

On Saturday 14 June, The Pressure Project invites the community to join a day dedicated to ocean conservation and connection. The event will feature a morning Ocean Clean-Up followed by a family-friendly Whale Night at Kawana Surf Club on the Sunshine Coast.

The Pressure Project, known for its immersive freediving courses, marine tours, and retreats, is now placing an even stronger focus on ocean conservation and eco-tourism. “Our goal is to connect people with the ocean in a deeply personal way. Once people fall in love with the sea and the marine life, they’re more likely to protect it,” says founder Adam Sellars.

Ocean Clean-Up – Morning of Saturday 14 June

Led by The Pressure Project team, volunteers will conduct a clean-up of sites they have chosen to protect through PADI Aware’s Adopt The Blue program in conjunction with the Green Fins project. Depending on ocean conditions, two underwater sites or the Mooloolah River will be cleaned. Data collection will contribute to global marine debris databases.

Whale Night – Saturday 14 June, 5:30 PM at Kawana Surf Club

An evening to celebrate all things whale! With expert guest speakers on humpback whale migration, a feature documentary screening, amazing prizes, and free face painting for kids. Food and drinks available on-site. Tickets: $29 (kids free). All proceeds from Whale Night will go to Nets Out Now, a grassroots campaign working to remove lethal shark nets from Queensland beaches.

The Pressure Project is currently calling on local businesses and ocean advocates to support the event by donating prizes.
