Caloundra Woman Triumphs in Construction Awards

Caloundra local, Linn Batey has taken out the Sunshine Coast Regional Women in Building award at this year’s Master Builders Queensland Housing and Construction awards.

The Women in Building award recognises women for their contribution in the building and construction industry, no matter what role in the industry they work in.

Linn said that receiving the award meant a lot to her but most of all she appreciates that the role of women in the construction industry is starting to be more and more recognised.

“Women are often underestimated in this industry, which is really sad because they contribute so much,” she said.

Linn’s passion for the building and construction industry started fifteen years ago when she entered the industry as an Accounts Administrator for an insurance repairs builder. Six years ago, she joined her parent’s existing small renovations business, where they shared a small home office. Fast forward six years, and Nyblad Construction is now a small company with over 10 employees, its own purpose-built premises, a trusted network of sub-contractors and a stellar reputation for quality renovations on the Sunshine Coast.

Throughout that time, Linn has been involved in Women in Building Australia’s mentorship program where she’s helped other women navigate their way through the building and construction industry. She’s also a member of various building and construction groups and associations and recently joined the Master Builders Industry Champions initiative which aims to attract and keep workers in the industry.

“I love the building and construction industry and I want everyone else to know how rewarding a career in this industry can be. “It can be tough at times, especially as a woman. But there are more and more ways for women to connect and network with each other. Master Builders Qld does a great job in organising events for women and Nyblad Construction is also a member of AWIC (Awesome Women in Construction) that does a fantastic job in promoting women in the building and construction industry.

“To be the Regional winner for Sunshine Coast is a great honour and I hope it can inspire other young women to consider the building and construction industry as a career,” she said.
