Business Spotlight with Deborah Murphy from Aussie Dream Home Loans

About Us

My partner and I moved from Brisbane to Cotton Tree last year. We have a blended family of 5 beautiful daughters, and 4 wonderful grandchildren, all under seven, and so much fun.

I had visited Cotton Tree Holiday Park from the age of ten, every single Christmas, with my parents and vowed to live there one day, and now my dream has come true.

I can honestly say that my life is perfect, with a beautiful family, awesome friends and a great place to enjoy it all!

I bought my first house at age 21. This peaked my interest in property and, after starting work in a major bank a few years later, I aspired to be a Lending Manager. I worked through many areas of the bank over 17 years, including being a team leader in a mortgage department. Armed with so much knowledge about home loans and mortgages I decided to start my own business.

Deborah Murphy, Aussie Dream Home Loans Director

I am a true Libra. I am happiest when work, family, friends and health are all in balance!

What do you enjoy most about your industry?

The one thing that I did not like about working in a bank branch was that we had targets to achieve which basically meant “move on to the next client”. I found this frustrating as I could not give the client the time and attention they needed for the most important decision of their life. I enjoy that I can now spend as much time as I like with a client to ensure that the whole process, from meeting them to settlement, is smooth and stress free. Brokers have so much choice for clients. It’s like a smorgasbord only the lenders are the meat!

What’s one thing you would recommend to anyone looking for a new home loan or to refinance?

I would recommend checking out the online Homebuyers Guide I created. It’s a fantastic free resource and is full of lots of helpful information and guidance. To get free access to the guide simply click on the image below.

Favourite place to eat on the Sunshine Coast?

I was recently introduced to ‘Rice Boi’ in Mooloolaba which is now my favourite, especially with a group of people where you can share plates and taste everything they have to offer. You can’t go past ‘the boat shed’ in Cotton Tree for a formal meal or simple fish and chips on a picnic blanket.

Favourite place to visit on the Sunshine Coast?

I adore Buderim. The ocean is my first love and rainforests are my second. Even just driving through Buderim is gorgeous, but to walk in the forest is next level. The freshness of the air, the smell of the leaves… I truly feel grounded when I am in the rainforest. In contrast, I love op shopping anywhere on the coast…I am a bit addicted!

What do you enjoy doing on the weekends?

Weekends are for family and friends. We often drive to Brisbane to see the kids, or they visit. In Summer it’s plain and simple – Beaches, Bars and BBQs!

What’s the last book you read?

I recently finished Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. It was his autobiography and his reflection on his life. I thoroughly enjoyed the book as it was an easy read and full of his typical humour.

What are you currently watching?

House of the Dragon. Traitors – the reality show (I know someone in it) Any true crime show going.
